We are able to deal with all wooden doors that have ‘Yale’ and ‘Chubb’ locks, both of which are incredibly common. In fact, it is likely that your door will have one of these styles.
Yale locks are some of the most common locks found on wooden doors, although they can be found on other door styles. They tend to be located on the top of the door. They are distinctive insofar as the fact that they will cause the door to automatically lock behind you when it is closed, not all will, but most.
If you have a Yale lock, it will normally have ‘Yale’ written on it. The door lock will be in 2 parts. The main part will be on the outside. It will be a round cylinder where you place your key. The second part will be a box on the back of the door. There will be a lever or a latch on here which you can use to open the door. Many businesses will have this style in place.
Yale is not just a lock style. It is a whole brand, and whilst the majority of their focus is on locks for wooden doors, they do a huge range of different products. This includes locks for double glazed doors, shed locks, and even garage locks. In addition to this, they make a plethora of burglar alarms and door chains. We are able to source many of these for you. We carry almost all styles of Yale lock, so we should have something to suit your budget and your door type.
Chubb is another brand, although they are mostly going to be associated with a very specific type of lock. This lock will involve a keyhole on either side of the door, basically a traditional door lock. The most common type of lock here is the ‘mortice deadlock’, although Chubb, as a brand, will cover a huge variety of different locks. Whilst you can’t technically buy new ‘Chubb’ locks anymore, by that we mean branded locks, we are able to source equivalents, made by the same group of people (ASSA ABLOY). Most of these have been branded ‘Yale’.
We carry a plethora of ‘Chubb’ locks in stock, all of which can replace your standard lock. We only install locks which meet the British Standard, which is what your home or business insurer will insist on. These locks are also recommended by the police. After all, the last thing you want is somebody breaking into your home or business, right?
We are able to help you change the locks on UPVC/Double Glazed and Composite Doors
If you have one of these doors, it is likely you have a EURO cylinder. In order to lock these doors, you have to lift up the handle and turn the key. In some cases, in the case of a wind on lock, you will need to turn the key multiple times. In other cases you may simply lift the handle to auto lock the window. It is important to note that if you wish the EURO lock to be effective, the handle needs to be solid when it is fully locked. If the handle can be moved, it is not locked. You should always check to see whether the handle is solid when you close it. If you can’t get it right, contact us here at hove locksmiths and we will be able to help you out.
EURO cylinders come in a variety of different styles to suit your door. This includes only the metal style (nickel plated, chrome etc.) but also a variety of different lengths. We keep almost all of the styles in stock, so if you want to keep people out of your property then talk to us. We will be more than happy to help you find the lock that is perfect for the door of your business or home.

UPVC/ Double Glazed Doors and Windows
We can help with all sorts of issues that may arise with this type of door or window.

or you can email us if you wish.
The main issue that we can deal with when it comes to this type of window is a change of locks. This could be, perhaps, down to a broken or jammed lock, or simply because you wish to make your home a bit more secure. We keep most types of lock in stock, as well as a plethora of different handles so we can match your door. We also have pad handles if that is something that you desire. If you wish for a new sliding door handle, we can source the exact type for you.
We can open a jammed UPVC door or window. We can also get hold of a mechanism for you if the whole mechanism needs replacing. As you may well know, the mechanism is the strip that runs down the side of the door. Generally speaking, these mechanisms last about 15 years before they need to be replaced.
You may start to notice that the mechanism needs replacing when the door becomes difficult to shut up open. It may be tough to shut at first and it may require a lot of force. This will, of course, result in a lot of pressure being placed on the mechanism which will increase the speed at which it deteriorates. In other cases, you may find that the latch starts to become loose. You can tighten this up with a screwdriver, but it will go eventually.
We are able to source a huge variety of mechanisms for you, so there is absolutely no issue here. In addition to this, we can help you find a good quality cylinder, if needed. There are hundreds of thousands of styles out there. We will help you find the best one for your door and your security needs. We keep most types in stock.
